Le rapport entre texte et image et <em>vice versa<\/em> est tr\u00e8s ancien. En effet, depuis toujours la litt\u00e9rature garde un rapport g\u00e9n\u00e9tique avec l\u2019image. N\u2019\u00e9tait-ce pas vrai que l\u2019\u00e9criture \u00e9tait dessin, et que nous continuons d\u2019appeler dessin le corps de caract\u00e8re&#160;? Ce qui fait dire \u00e0 Vouilloux (1988&#160;: 31) que \u00ab&#160;<em>L\u2019image en tant que visible pur, n\u2019avait d\u2019existence qu\u2019entre son chiffrage et\u00a0son d\u00e9chiffrage, ce qui signifie qu\u2019elle \u00e9tait destin\u00e9e \u00e0 \u00eatre lue, d\u00e9cod\u00e9e, et non pas vue<\/em><em>.\u00a0<\/em>&#160;\u00bb Il est pour ainsi dire l\u00e9gitime de se pencher sur des textes (romans ou autres) o\u00f9 l\u2019image (photo, r\u00eave, tableau de peinture, film) tient une place pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rante qu\u2019elle devient di\u00e9g\u00e9tique. Elle contribue dans la gen\u00e8se m\u00eame du r\u00e9cit. D\u2019ailleurs, apr\u00e8s la s\u00e9paration entre l\u2019\u00e9crit et l\u2019image, leur alliance \u00e9tait toujours la bienvenue, et d\u00e8s le XV<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, images et textes coexistaient sans offenser les puritains. L\u2019image, dans notre contexte, est prise dans son sens le plus large.<\/p>\n<p><em>L&rsquo;Iliade<\/em>, l&rsquo;un des plus anciens textes de la litt\u00e9rature occidentale compos\u00e9 par Hom\u00e8re, met en sc\u00e8ne la description du bouclier d&rsquo;Achille. L&rsquo;\u00e9pop\u00e9e, ancienne forme du roman actuel, pourrait \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme le g\u00e9n\u00e9rateur de cette fusion entre les genres mim\u00e9tiques (imitation de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 par l\u2019art po\u00e9tique) jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 ne plus leur reconna\u00eetre de fronti\u00e8res donnant comme produit final ce que Genette appelle l\u2019architexte. Et qu\u2019ils soient des distiques, des \u00e9pigraphes, des \u00e9pigrammes ou m\u00eame des quatrains, les textes accompagnant une \u0153uvre d\u2019art existaient depuis longtemps \u00ab&#160;<em>reste que leur principe de base et leur origine, est la co-textualit\u00e9&#160;: sur une image, en l\u2019occurrence un tableau, nous trouverons dans un coin, ou au-dessous, la signature de l\u2019artiste<\/em>.&#160;\u00bb (Constantini, 1995&#160;: 33) La co-pr\u00e9sence de l\u2019image et de l\u2019\u00e9crit a connu depuis lors une r\u00e9volution, surtout avec l\u2019invention de la photographie, puis du cin\u00e9ma. Ceux-ci sont devenus, et ce d\u00e8s leurs premiers jours, concurrents de la peinture, d\u00e9tr\u00f4n\u00e9e au profit de ses s\u0153urs m\u00e9caniques dans la litt\u00e9rature.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est dans cette perspective que va s\u2019articuler notre num\u00e9ro. Il va interroger la litt\u00e9rature en tant que r\u00e9ceptrice d\u2019arts visuels, pour y relever le rapport, tellement ancien, entre l\u2019image et le r\u00e9cit. Pour ce faire, des auteurs comme Balzac, Zola, Dib, Ben Jelloun, Echenoz, Binebine, Mondrian\u2026 seraient un bon corpus d\u2019\u00e9tude.<\/p>\n<p>Ainsi, il sera question de mettre en relation la manifestation du visuel dans le texte romanesque et son articulation avec la pens\u00e9e de ces \u00e9crivains. Puis, en mettant l\u2019accent sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 visuel\/figuratif\/iconique\/cin\u00e9matographique, qui jalonne la production de ces auteurs, les articles d\u00e9finiront les proc\u00e9d\u00e9s
